Institution Profile:

      Siddhartha College of Education, Vijayawada was established in the year 1984 to provide a pre-service training at secondary level (B.Ed. Course). It was inaugurated by Prof. K. Rama Mohan Rao, the then Vice-Chancellor of Nagarjuna University on 23rd January, 1984.

The inaugural function of the new college building was presided over by the Vice President of Siddhartha Academy of General & Technical Education Sri Garapati Venkateswara Rao, Hon’ble Minister for Secondary School Education, Andhra Pradesh, Sri Devineni Venkata Ramana inaugurated the new building.

The college was renamed as Y.V. Rao Siddhartha College of Education on 10.02.2000.

 

Affiliation:

      Approved by National Council for Teacher Education.

It is accorded permanent affiliation by Acharya Nagarjuna University from 2001-2002 academic year onwards.

Courses Offered:

Course Intake
1 year Bachelor of Education Course in two sections 160

Admissions are made on the basis of the group subjects studied at their graduation level. The four main divisions are Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Social Studies. The student is trained in two methodology subjects that were studied at graduate level.

Eligibility:

      Admissions into the course are made through a Common Entrance Test conducted by A.P. State Council for Higher Education. For which the Entrance notification will be given in the month of April and Test will be conducted in June/July every year. LL.B. and 5-year B.A., LL.B. Degree Courses. 

    1. Candidates should be of Indian Nationality.

    2. Candidates who have already passed the qualifying degree examinations i.e. B.A./B.Sc. B.Com/B.Sc. (Home Science) & B.C.A. with an aggregate of 45% marks and above in Part II (Group subjects). However in the case of SC/ST candidates a mere pass is sufficient. Further, the candidates with the following background are not eligible to apply B.E./B.Tech/M.B.B.S./ Ag. B.Sc./ B.V.Sc./BHMT B. Pharmacy and such other professional and job oriented courses. Candidates with Master’s degree without under-graduate study are also not eligible.

    The candidates should have completed the age of 19 years on the date of entry into the course as announced by the ED.CET Committee.

Admission:

      The Degree of Bachelor of Education shall be conferred on a candidate who after admission into the B.Ed. Course based on the ED.CET has pursued a regular course of study as herein prescribed and fulfilled the conditions laid down for the attendance of students and passed the prescribed examination both in theory and practicals.

Local candidate 85% of the seats and non-local 15% of the seats (for further details, see the A.P. Educational Institutions Regulations and admission order 1974 as amended in G.O.P.No.646(W) Dept. dated 10th July 1979).

Fee Structure:

      The approximate cost of Education on an average basis is about Rs.12,320/- or US $ 300 . Living expenditure (about Rs.12,320/ or US $ 300 per annum) is not included. (Tuition Fee Rs.10,000/-, Special fee Rs.800/- University Infrastructure fee Rs.1520/-)

Infrastructure Facilities:

      The College has a 3 storeyed elegant building with a plinth area of 23000 sq.ft.

Library & Reading Room:

      The College has a well-stocked Library with Computer facilities and has facilities for both curricular, Co-curricular and extra curricular activities. The Library contains more than a 6490 volumes worth about Rs.2.6 lakhs besides news papers, journals and magazines.

Laboratory:

      The equipment is worth Rs.50,000/- for Science Laboratories (Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences) & A.V. Equipment Rs.57,666/-. The College is also having Social Studies Lab, Mathematics Laboratory Psychology Laboratory, Language Laboratory etc.

Faculty:

      1. All the Staff members are appointed in accordance with rules and regulations of A.P. State Government and NCTE Norms.

      2. Methodology Clubs: College has been organizing the Mathematics Club, Physical Sciences Clubs, Biological Science Club, Social Studies Club, English Club and Telugu Club. The Lecturers of the concerned methodologies act as the chairpersons and the student office bearers would be elected by the respective methodology students.

Results:

      The examination results of all these years have been uniformly very high, always above 90% in theory and 100% in practicals. Ms. Nalluri Naga Mohini and B. Sujatha secured Prof. G.L.Benny Gold Medal and Sri Anna Maria Gold Medal for the year 1998 and 2001 respectively from Acharya Nagarjuna University.

Sports & Games:

      The College has organized the Acharya Nagarjuna University Inter Collegiate Cricket Tournaments of North Zone and Central Zone for the year 1999-2000 in November and December. The Acharya Nagarjuna University Cricket Team Selection Trials were conducted from 13th to 16th December 1999. More than 140 players took part in these trails from Acharya Nagarjuna University affiliated Colleges. Y.V.R.K. Prasad, Physical Director has accompanied as coach for Acharya Nagarjuna University Cricket and Kho-Kho Team (s) in the year 2002 and 2001 and we are also conducting Acharya Nagarjuna University Swimming (M & W) Tournament-cum-selection trials during 2003-2004.

Management Seats:

      The Government sanctioned the Management quota of 15% i.e. 24 seats into B.Ed. Course and admissions were made by the Management accordingly.

Achievements:

    1. The pass percentage in theory has been between 94% and 98% and cent percent in practicals.

    2. Won Prof. G.L. Beeny and Sr. Anne Maria Medals for two times in the years 1997-98, Naga Mohini, Social Studies and English methodology) and in the year 2000-2001 (B. Sujatha, Biological Science and English)

    3. Organized Inter Collegiate Cricket Northzone and Interzone Tournament(s) and also selection trains for men in the year 1999-2000.

    Principal and Physical Director acted as Chairman and Convenor of the Acharya Nagarjuna University Sports Board for the year 1999-2000.

Future Plans:

      The College has plans to start Master of Education Course (M.Ed.)
